Why StreetBitesAsia exists
We're not a food-tech company that discovered Asia — we're a family who discovered Asia first, and fell hard for it. Somewhere between our third bowl of khao soi in Chiang Mai and our fifth night wandering Hanoi's Old Quarter with our kids in tow, chasing chopsticks and grilled pork smoke, we realized something: the best meals of our trips were almost never in a restaurant. They were on a plastic stool, at a stall with no sign, run by someone's grandmother for forty years.
And every single time, finding those places was harder than it should be. Google Maps buries them under tourist traps. Reviews are in a language we can't read. Photos are blurry or missing entirely. We kept thinking: "there has to be a better way to do this."
There wasn't — so we built one ourselves.
Built by travelers, for travelers
StreetBitesAsia started as our own private notes app — a running list of stalls and dishes we didn't want to forget, scattered across screenshots and half-broken pins. It grew into something we wished had existed the whole time: a place where you can actually trust what you're looking at.
Every place on this app has been vetted — real ratings, real signature dishes, and honest notes on what makes it worth your time (or when it's a skip). No sponsored placements, no fake five-star pile-ons. Just the food we'd actually put in front of our own kids, at prices that make sense for a family traveling on the ground rather than from a five-star lobby.
Some of these spots we've eaten at ourselves and checked in person. The rest come from a wider circle we trust — fellow travelers, food bloggers, YouTubers, and Instagram creators who live for this stuff just as much as we do. We dig through their recommendations, cross-check the details, and only add a place once we're confident it's genuinely worth your time.
We're still out there eating our way through Asia, one city at a time — so this app keeps growing every single week.
