Much less touristy than the yatai by the river. Only had to wait a few minutes. Ramen is not bad but not great, and priced a bit higher than a regular ramen restaurant. Skewers on the salty side so I recommend asking for less salt. Experience kind of rushed, and the guy cooking scolded me for not ordering everything at once. It's technically street food, but so strict compared to other countries I've been to like Mexico or even DIY Korean barbecue.
On a cold rainy night, this hearty Yatai cooked food hit the spot. The beef was nice, shrimp was sweet, oden fish cake and daikon were memorable. And the ramen was fantastic. Lovely rich soup. I'm soaked from the rain but so worth it. I will mention that it is very pricey. I paid almost ¥4000 for one Wagyu skewer, one prawn, one beer, and two pieces of oden- fish cake and daikon. Equivalent to about 3 excellent ramen meals or a fancyeal at a proper restaurant rather than waiting out in the rain and getting smoked. So it is not very affordable. Or maybe I didn't know how to order effectively.
The oden was flavorful, and the prices were reasonable, especially considering its popularity among tourists. However, the experience was a bit mixed. The grill’s smoke blew directly into my face, making it uncomfortable and prompting me to eat quickly. Additionally, the staff seemed rushed and less friendly, possibly due to the limited seating and high turnover. While the food was good, the overall atmosphere felt hurried. If you’re looking to experience a traditional yatai, Tomochan offers authentic flavors, but be prepared for a bustling and compact environment.
Great food, friendly services, and again really great food. The atmosphere might not be like nice restaurants, it is too small and you have to sit very close to strangers. Though it was a great dining experience.
One of the best meal I had entire trip, it’s crowded with locals, a little away from the tourist site The ramen was better than some of well known franchises, the wagyu was amazing Fun experience, too bad I cant speak Japanese well enough to get in conversation with others But staff and locals were very friendly
