Why worth it

  • Run by the daughter of Cafe Giangs founder, serving the same egg coffee recipe in a more central location by Hoan Kiem Lake
  • Entrance is hidden — you walk through a narrow street-level hallway before climbing to the cafe itself
  • A quieter, slightly more polished alternative to the original Cafe Giang
  • A good pick if Cafe Giangs queue is too long but you still want the authentic family recipe

An authentic taste of Hanoi history. Café Dinh was founded by the daughter of the man who actually invented Egg Coffee, and the recipe remains legendary. The Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng) is perfection—thick, custard-like foam that isn't too fishy, balanced by incredibly strong, dark Robusta coffee. Don't be put off by the entrance! You have to walk through a narrow, dim hallway (look for the "13 Dinh Tien Hoang" sign) and head up a creaky staircase to the second floor. It’s tiny, crowded, and filled with the local "student cafe" vibe, but that’s exactly what makes it special. At around 30,000 VND, it's also one of the most affordable and authentic cups in the Old Quarter. If you’re lucky enough to snag a seat on the tiny balcony, you’ll have one of the best views in the city, watching the chaotic traffic around the lake while sipping on a velvety, rich egg coffee. The atmosphere is loud, smoky, and bustling—truly the heart of Hanoi's coffee culture. The staff is quick, and even though it gets packed, the experience of drinking coffee in a room that hasn't changed in decades is priceless. Must try: Hot Egg Coffee and the Egg Cocoa (for those with a sweet tooth).

Cafe Dinh is definitely a must-visit place in Vietnam for egg coffee lovers. Both the hot and cold egg coffee were excellent and absolutely worth trying. The taste was rich, unique, and memorable. The service was good, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Highly recommended if you are visiting Hanoi and want to try authentic Vietnamese egg coffee.

Another café that’s worth visiting if you want to try Hanoi’s famous egg coffee. While I personally prefer the egg coffee at Café Giảng, this one is still very good and definitely worth experiencing. The café has a cozy atmosphere, though it’s quite small and can get crowded during busy hours. If you’re a coffee lover exploring Hanoi’s café scene, this is another solid stop to add to your list.

This is such a cozy and lovely place to go to if you’re looking for warmth and drinks. Here, you can order drinks which include egg coffee or egg cacao (I think it is a signature drink here). Anyways, the seating is simple and not much. There are two floors, first floor is a bit hot but second floor is way cooler with A/C. The egg coffee is so creamy and not that bitter nor sweet at all! The latte art is also chef’s kiss, so pretty! The view on the balcony is also captivating as it captures the beautiful view of the Hoan Kiem Lake!

Nestled in the bustling streets of Hanoi, Cafe Dinh is a hidden gem that delivers one of the best egg coffees in town. 🍳 Egg Coffee Excellence Their egg coffee is rich, velvety, and perfectly balanced—truly among the finest I’ve tasted in Vietnam. The creamy texture and bold Vietnamese coffee base make it an unforgettable experience. 🏠 Ambience & Atmosphere The café offers an excellent and cozy ambience, ideal for unwinding after exploring the Old Quarter. Its warm setting makes every sip feel even more special. 🎁 Takeaway Treats I couldn’t resist bringing the experience home—I picked up three packets of Vietnamese coffee to savor later. A perfect way to extend the magic of Cafe Dinh beyond Hanoi. ✨ Final Word Cafe Dinh is a must-visit for coffee lovers. With its outstanding egg coffee, inviting atmosphere, and authentic local charm, it’s a spot that captures the true essence of Hanoi’s café culture.
