Phở Thìn Bờ Hồ
Opening Hours
Why worth it
- Serving pho since 1955, one of the oldest and most storied pho shops by Hoan Kiem Lake
- Uses a distinctive stir-fried beef technique rather than the usual raw beef dropped into hot broth
- Seating spills into a narrow alleyway — an authentic but tight, no-frills setup
- A second-floor air-conditioned area is available if the heat and street noise get to be too much

One of the better phos in Hanoi - the mixed beef (rare and well done) was quite well done, not too hard and quite flavourful. Noodles were a little chewy and not too soft (so they dont just break apart in my chopsticks). Broth was light as is typical of phos in this area, but it is one of the stronger ones which I personally appreciate. Won't say this is the best pho I have ever had but it is also far from the worst. The eatery is a few floors and can get quite crowded as it is popular. Second floor had a short ceiling and was quite unique. Not super clean but they did put in some effort into the designing of the place to make it more welcoming and homely, with paintings, graphics and their certificates. They offer a washroom on the third floor as well which is nice. If I am craving pho in Hanoi, I might give this another try. PS. the egg was my own top up and did not come together with the pho.
Generous portions and incredible flavor – A solid 100k well spent! I decided to treat myself to the special bowl of pho here, and it completely exceeded my expectations. At 100,000 VND, it might seem a bit pricier than your average street bowl, but the sheer amount of meat they pack into it makes it worth every single Dong. The beef is incredibly tender and perfectly cooked, managing to hold onto its rich, natural flavors instead of being dried out or bland. The broth is the real deal too clear, fragrant, and deeply savory. The restaurant spans across two floors, giving you a bit more breathing room than your usual cramped noodle shops. Even though the place can get quite busy, the service is remarkably fast and efficient, so you won't be left staring at an empty table for long. It's a clean, satisfying, and quick dining experience that I'd easily recommend to anyone looking for a truly premium bowl of pho.
Lovely place recommended by my Airbnb host. The beef noodle is super delicious, keep in mind it comes half raw and hot soup cooks it along the way, also its not fully seasoned, you have garlic and hot sauce to mix it to perfection and its super super good The order is ready almost immediately. Was not a big fan of the bread sticks. The sleeping cat is sooo cute
This shop serves beef pho. It is delicious, and since it is open from early morning until late at night, it is highly recommended for tourists looking for a meal. The beef was exceptional—truly unforgettable.
IMHO this shop serves one of the best Pho Bo (beef noddles) in Hanoi! The price is right with generous portions of beef, in the tourist belt vicinity of Hoan Kiem Lake! The shop's street alley atmosphere won't let you feel touristy. The workers are fast & understand English. I ordered a Jumbo bowl beef mix pho (100,000d) with a plate of bread sticks (15,000d) and it's totally worth it
