Nhà Hàng Bánh Tôm Hồ Tây
Opening Hours
Why worth it
- A historic lakeside restaurant credited with popularizing banh tom (shrimp and sweet potato fritters) since the 1930s
- The batter gets its orange color naturally from sweet potato and turmeric
- Reviews are sharply divided — some praise the shrimp cakes and lake view, others report tourist pricing and poor service
- Worth going for the historical dish and view, but temper expectations on service

The restaurant’s low rating makes more sense after my visit. I tried their signature bánh tôm, but it didn’t live up to my expectations. Compared to other places I’ve had it, the flavor was quite mild, and the batter was noticeably oily. For a fried dish, I usually expect it to be especially flavorful to justify the indulgence. And their service attitude is quit rude, for item they brought to our table without we ordering, they charged to our bill. We told them that we didn’t use/eat them, please take it off the bill, the server became cranky. That said, the location is a definite plus. It’s right by the lake and conveniently located across from Tran Quoc Temple, making it an easy stop before or after a visit to the area.
The food was not that good. Also the service was bad. Although it was 9:30 pm but the waitress kept insiting that I pay instantly. I was in the middle of my eating and just ordered one more beer. I would never go there again.
Do NOT use the napkins and peanuts they give to you. They cost money but they wont tell you that. Fortunately, we didnt eat the peanuts so we didnt have to pay for that. The food is overpriced and taste average. At the very least, eating next to the lake was nice
Delicious food and good like view, the prawn cakes are crispy and the sauce is flavourful. We ordered the beef and big prawns and they are also very fresh and delicious. just a little bit pricey, and you need to find good tables by yourself.
DON'T GO HERE! Eventhough the view is nice, the sevice is terrible. The waiteresses didn't care about me and they were very rude. I felt like I have to be thankful when they come to me.. I have ordered a fried squid which was very chewy and it didn't have any taste. Beside I have ordered a soup which wasn't ready after 1 hour! And there were just few other customers... At the end they have charged me for a tissue which was given to me without any information that it has a cost... Terrible service, terrible hospitality
