Hand made piping hot black sesame soup (more like a paste). Mr Bao invited me into his home to view some photos of his parents and their old utensils and tools. Very beautifully taken pictures of his parents. Nice quiet retreat from the noise and crowd.
Would highly recommend! The owner welcomes you into her ancestral home, inviting you to sit down and savor a hearty bowl of black sesame soup alongside a comforting cup of ginger tea. The black sesame is not too sweet and is true to the cultural tradition. No added sugar but with a slight sweetness from blended sweet potato. The recipe is handed down from her father in who’s been peddling the soup since the early 1900s. We finished everything before I remembered to snap a photo!
Hyper-local and authentic experience of Hoi An. This place has been going for generations and was a nice change of pace from the chaos of the market. The black sesame pudding tasted very good and unique.
Em is such a gracious host who gave us the most authentic Hoi An experience! She is carrying on her father’s century-long legacy of making black sesame chè—and her delicacy is without a doubt delicious! Wishing her a lifetime of continued success in her business!
This felt like a very local and authentic experience. We learnt about the origins of the sweet black sesame soup, all the different ingredients used, and got to experience a really well made version of it at this place. They still make everything by hand. The ginger tea that came with it was also superb. Btw the original people who started this place was 108 and his wife who is still alive is 102 years old.
