ShinShin Tenjin – Delicious Ramen, but Be Prepared to Queue! 🍜 We finally tried Hakata Ramen ShinShin Tenjin Main Store, and the ramen was absolutely delicious! Rich and flavourful without feeling overly heavy, it was definitely a satisfying bowl after the long wait. And the wait really was long—we queued for more than an hour in the summer heat. Luckily, we visited at night, so it was at least a little more manageable. Definitely something to keep in mind if you’re planning to come during the hotter months. What we found interesting was the crowd. There was a really good mix of local and international customers, and compared with Ichiran, ShinShin seemed to attract noticeably more locals during our visit, which gave it a nice neighbourhood feel despite its popularity. Very tasty and definitely worth trying while in Fukuoka—just come prepared for the queue! 🍜✨
We dropped by Shin-Shin during our trip, and the ramen itself was great! Their signature Hakata ramen features a rich, savory tonkotsu broth that is incredibly flavorful without being overly greasy. However, there were a few downsides that made this a 4/5 experience. First, we ordered their gyoza, but it was just so-so for me. I’ve definitely tried better and juicier gyoza at other places, so it wasn't anything special. Second, I wish they offered a flexible option to easily customize your bowl by adding extra egg or chashu pork toppings to the standard ramen. Lastly, the staff inside didn't really make us feel that welcome. It's not that they need to literally smile the whole time, but they just gave off that tired energy that makes you feel like they don't want to accommodate or serve customers at all. Overall, it's still a solid 4/5 because the ramen itself is highly satisfying and worth a visit for the authentic Hakata flavor, but the customer service energy could definitely be better.
Having heard so many positive comments on Shin Shin before my trip, I decided to give it a go for lunch. It did live up to my expectations. I ordered its signature Hakata-style tonkotsu (pork bone) broth and Yaki Meshi (fried rice) as the side dish. The soup blends pork bones and chicken, yielding a milky, smooth, and surprisingly light flavor profile. The fired rice is a must-order item elevating your overall dining experience here. I went there at around 1:30 pm on Monday. There was a queue, but I was seated in 20 minutes. An umbrella was even provided. How considerate! Whether it is worth the wait is always personal. Yet, if you are a ramen lover, do give it a go!
This was my first meal in Fukuoka, and I left feeling extremely satisfied! Not only was the ramen delicious, but the fried rice was also really good. The prices were reasonable too. Since the restaurant isn’t very big, the waiting time was quite long — I went around 9pm and waited for about 30 minutes. But honestly, it was totally worth the wait. Highly recommended!
In short their ramen was soo good and I would say I loved it. Normally I cannot finish a ramen bowl myself but this one had the best portion a perffect soup and delicious noodles. We went around 7pm and there was already a que. First time waiting for a meal in a que, but worth the hype. Waited maybe 45minutes anmd the que was longer when we came out, however it was smooth and did not feel too tired, but this depends on the time and days I think.A must try if you are in Hakata. As a suggestion I hope they gave menus for people waiting so they could decide before going in.
