Silom Soi 20 Street Food
Why worth it
- A multicultural street food cluster on Silom Soi 20, home to Bangkok's large South Asian/Muslim Thai community
- Famous for some of the best chicken biryani in the city, alongside roti, curries, and halal specialties
- Anchored by a Dravidian-style Hindu temple, giving the market a distinct cultural flavor unlike anywhere else in Bangkok

The food is average and does not stand out compared to other street food options in Bangkok (the grilled squid was served cold and the Pad Thai and enoki cabbage lacked flavor). Additionally, the service was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. Orders were significantly delayed, and we even had to cancel some of our orders due to the staff’s inefficiency. Worse, the manager displayed discriminatory behavior and showed no remorse or willingness to address their actions, which made the experience even more unpleasant. I strongly advise tourists to avoid this restaurant.
I am on a cruise and can't taste the food so I jump at any chance to eat food I can taste. The hawker stalls here were good and very cheap. It's impossible to judge any one stall over another unless you visit and sample them all. The one I tried was good not great but dirt cheap. I went for pad Thai and chicken satay with lots of Singa beer for just over USD $14. Skip the ritzy restaurants and try this street food. A ton of tourists were there when I was there.
Silom Street Food offers a vibrant and authentic taste of Bangkok’s local cuisine right in the heart of the city. The variety of dishes is impressive — from pad thai and spicy papaya salad to grilled seafood and rich noodle soups — all made fresh to order. Prices are very affordable, making it a great choice for both budget travelers and food lovers looking for real Thai flavors. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, especially in the evening when locals and visitors gather to eat and explore the different stalls. The only downside is that seating can be basic and it gets crowded at peak times, but that’s part of the charm of the real street food experience. Overall, Silom Street Food is a delicious and fun spot to sample classic Thai street eats.
Our 9th day here in Bangkok. We ate in so many places, enjoyed and are very pleased with everything until today. So, we moved to a different hotel and wanted to try the street food nearby! We were so happy to order, in fact ordered so many!!! Orders slowly came one by one. First, the salted egg, then the pad thai and prawn gyosa. Followed by the COLD and Hard to chew grilled squid! I wanted to have it heated but it’s new year, we wanted to think they probably have lots of orders. We also got my fishball noodle soup, where you can hardly pick the noodles! We patiently waited for quite a long time but our remaining orders didn’t come, as opposed to the “others” served very eagerly and fast. Yup, owner greets them warmly ( giving them ointments - wish I had taken pics), BUT I am pretty sure you will witness this if you pass by - hard to miss this guy doing that! I went to informed them that we are cancelling the rest of our orders since it’s been ages and nothing came. No apologies, no signs of anything, I just proceed to ask for our bill ( take note that I had to stand up and go to them for them to attend to us so we can pay otherwise, it will take awhile to give us the bill). To my surprise, bill includes the dishes we didn’t get ( By the way, I made sure to check items billed because they don’t seem to care!) It’s been really disappointing to see and honestly I could tell more BUT just wanted to share for others to know. Hope nobody else experience such kind of service or treatment. We came there to eat too and we are all there capable of paying ( if thats the reason why owner prefer “others”. It’s been awhile since I last gave a review here and I have not given one since we came here in Bangkok but I feel this time I needed to and I just realized how important the reviews could be! We are definitely checking now before eating. Hope this restaurant learns something from this review.
