Excellent Pad Thaï at Baan Hai! We went there for lunch, and most tables were full. We waited for about 3 minutes and we're assigned a table. We ordered the crackling pork pad Thai at mild spice, served in about 5 minutes and it was excellent and just the right level of spicy for us! Decent size plate for the price, kind staff and excellent taste!
If you are looking for the absolute, essential taste of authentic Thai street food, Baan Yai Phad Thai, known locally as "Silent Pad Thai" near Sutthisan MRT, is a compulsory pilgrimage. The recommendation from your Siammaze hotel staff only confirms its legendary status. This is not your average roadside stir-fry; it is a multi-year Michelin Bib Gourmand winner, and for good reason. The owner, Somjet “Ae” Chuenyam, uses a charcoal-fired stove, imparting a deep, distinctive wok hei smokiness that cheap imitation dishes simply cannot match. His signature is the addition of crispy pork crackling (or the fresh seafood option, as seen in your photo) which perfectly complements the tender, flavorful noodles. The sauce, made from scratch with slow-cooked tamarind, hits that perfect balance of sweet, sour, and savory. Yes, getting there requires dedication—the bus to Sutthisan followed by a Grab bike or a walk is part of the adventure. Be prepared for a queue, even with their efficient team, but every minute spent waiting is rewarded with arguably the best Pad Thai in Bangkok. This is a place I will continue to visit every time, and absolutely a "must go" for anyone serious about Thai food.
Pad thai is a dish that’s based on preferences. Some people may like soggy Pad thai, some likes dry. Although the flavours were on point, the flavours were way too spicy, so spicy that I left it in half. Shrimp was horrible : unveined, dirty, overcooked and you have to deskin it off yourself. Squid was extremely horrible and overcooked. Don’t even get me started with the place, it was extremely dirty, service wasn’t great and the place smells bad. Numerous bugs thus, I had a bad experience. I can see the place’s ambitions and passions, which I’ll respect that, but I’m not coming back here again.
The most delicious food that I ever tasted during my holiday in Thailand! The price is so affordable too. The atmosphere is so homey even you can find the owner's bike on the toilet 🤣
Had the Pad Thai Goong with glass noodles. Delicious! They offer four spice levels: Non Spicy, Mild, Medium, and Super Spicy. I chose Mild, but it was still pretty hot, yet very good. Great flavors. They’ve earned the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand many times and I get why.
