We stumbled upon this right as they were about to show up and open. A line was forming so we stood in it and asked what it was for. Zero regrets. First time my wife and I ever tried a roti and it was delicious! I got a Nutella and banana one with condensed milk on top and she got the original with condensed milk! You have to go up and write your order down and wait for your number to be called, but the line goes quick once they start cooking.
The best Roti in all of chiang Mai. I've tried a number of Roti's all over the city, but this was by far the nicest. The two old women cooking them are iconic, and the atmosphere around the shack is sublime. Only thing is it can get busy at peak times. When you arrive make sure to grab a page and write your order, and then watch the magic happen!!!
Amazing hospitality, you have to write your order on a piece of paper, give it to the lady, and then pay at the end. Tasty food cooked in coconut oil, the banana and Nutella is tasty! Must try spot!
The place is easy to find, a short walk from Tha Phae Gate. You could spot the stall once you are near, there will a big crowd surrounded the stall. The wait isn’t too long as there are two ladies doing the roti. The order process is very systematic, you take the order paper, write down your order and wait for your number. The portion isn’t too big but good for 1 person. The dough is crispy and is not too greasy to handle.
Roti Pa Dae was honestly one of the most lively and unforgettable food experiences of my Thailand trip. This famous Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand street food spot is always surrounded by a huge crowd, and now I fully understand why. I actually came back two days in a row but couldn’t get it because of the rush, and finally managed to try it on the third day and it was absolutely worth the wait. The energy around the stall is amazing. Watching the fashionable elderly lady cooking the roti with so much confidence and speed makes the whole experience even more special. I tried the Roti Banana Egg Nutella Pancake and it was incredible. Perfectly crispy outside, soft and warm inside, rich chocolate sweetness balanced with banana and egg, and full of flavor in every bite. If you are visiting Chiang Mai, don’t miss this place. Yes, there will probably be a queue, but trust me, the taste and the experience make it completely worth it.
