Another Michelin Bib gourmand in oldtown. Well known for their Chicken stew with rice. I find that the sauce is a bit sweet for my taste. The egg noodle with three musketeers (roasted pork, pork wantons and steamed pork ribs was good. The noodles had the perfect texture which is not overly thin, springy with every bite combined with the sauce was yummy. Service is good and the lady is friendly and speaks good english. If you have trouble deciding still to the Michelin Guide menu. Taste is vey individual.
Sae Phun Restaurant is another spot recognized by the Michelin Guide. The food is good and very comforting, but personally the texture wasn’t really my style because the sauce is too slimy for me. That said, I can totally see why it’s a favorite for many people. The taste feels very “homey” and authentic. I ordered Chicken Stew with rice, and Chicken Stew with noodle, also the dumplings. The drink I ordered (thai tea with lime) was also really nice, with just the right amount of sourness to balance everything out. I would say, it still worth trying, especially if you enjoy simple, comforting flavors.
The restaurant is simple, but the food is full of flavour and made with care. Their signature chicken stew with egg noodle and the boiled prawn wontons with Chinese chilli oil were both comforting and delicious. It was also very thoughtful of the staff to set up a fan for us as it was extremely hot outside. 🥵
Absolutely incredible meal. It is so fair priced. The owner is so kind and they speak pretty good English. I was so impressed. It was by far the best meal in Thailand.
Instead of this location, I had Sae Phun’s Signature combo of Chicken Stew with Thai-Chinese Sausage Rice, and Prawn Rolls (soup version) @ Siam Paragon’s food court. 399 Baht. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy both the dishes as much as the rave reviewers here. At the price point, there was not much chicken on the plate — which was diced up and swimming in a brown gravy. In my opinion, the gravy was extremely gooey, lacked any Umami and as such, it did not pack a punch. 😩 The Thai-Chinese Sausage was just about the only thing on the plate that was OK. A shame there were only 5 baby slices… 😂 Nothing to say much about the fried egg — other than it being well fried, with the egg yolk spewing across the dish when cut through it. The Prawn Rolls only looked good in the menu photos. They were actually decent-sized prawns wrapped with an extremely thin layer or either pork or chicken mince (not sure), and further enveloped in Wanton skins. Perhaps steamed, they were way too overcooked for my liking… 😒 These 2 dishes may be amongst local Thai favourites, but I just could not get myself to like it. Maybe there was a reason why there was no Q at the stall, unlike most other Michelin Bib Gourmand stalls at the Siam Paragon food court.
