If you're visiting the stunning Itsukushima Shrine, you absolutely cannot miss this hidden gem of an oyster restaurant! The Kakiya set is a must-try-just 2,900 yen gets you an amazing 7 dishes! It's hands down the best portion for the price in the area. Plus, we couldn't resist adding 4 pieces of Kaki Komachi raw oysters to share for only 2,800 yen. Incredible flavors and fresh as can be! • This little spot may not be super well-known, but it's definitely worth the visit. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
Having seen many ppl strongly recommend the oysters from this oyster resto in Miyajima, my sis and I deliberately visited for an early dinner when we wandered around Miyajima. . We ordered the following dishes to share: -Kakiya Set (JPY2600) This set includes 7 items: 1. Hiroshima Oysters Barbecued in the Shell Served with two huge pieces, the grilled oysters were incredibly fresh. Even without any condiments, we could still savour their umami, prob becoz they were quickly grilled over high heat to lock in the flavour. 2. Oysters Cooked on Rice The rice, cooked with oyster soup, had a colour reminiscent of soy sauce staining the white rice. It was sprinkled with shredded nori and topped with three plump oysters. 3. Fried Oyster With an extremely crispy exterior and a tender, succulent interior, the juice bursted once we bit into it. Squeezing lemon reduced some greasiness, and dipping them in tartar sauce enhanced their savoury. 4. Oiled Oyster It had a rich and creamy flavour with a firmer texture, described on the menu as cheese from the sea, which I agreed with. 5. Simmered Oyster in Soy Sauce Cooked with light soy sauce and white sugar, it had a rather sweet flavour. 6. Oyster Miso Soup The miso soup absorbed the essence of the oyster, giving it a rich taste. It contained a huge oyster, making it more satisfying. 7. Salad with Kakiya's Dressing The salad was served with homemade oyster sauce from the store. -Oyster Gratin in 3 Pieces (JPY1750) Grilled and topped with cheese, butter and garlic, the oysters were baked to perfection. They were cheesy, served piping hot, and each was as large as my hand. . The resto has two floors and closes at 1800. It is clean with a modern design. We dined in the bar setting area, and a basket was placed behind our chairs for our belongings. . Their oysters were all huge, plump and fresh, and the prices were absolutely reasonable with great CP value! The staff were nice too. Definitely a must-visit place if you are an oyster lover.
Friendly, polite staff. Saw that the ambiance and vibe of this Miyajima Oyster place is outstanding. I looked for 3 different areas but Kakiya is more interesting.Alas, it was alas a Michellin Bib Gourmand. The oysters are big though not in season, freshly grilled and not chilled. Paired with a gin and tonic didn't disappoint during lunch hour. Chase with water if this is strong and early for u. Love it! Next time i will choose the recommended one if I haven't taken my breakfast at 8:30am.I went here around 10:30 and was still full hence taken the 4 oysters. It can get expensive if you are hungry and you order some more 😬
Absolutely amazing restaurant for sea food in Miyajima. Try grilled oysters (yakigaki) and also Kakiya Teishoku, you will be amazed. They cook the oysters in many different ways and all of them are delicious. They also have good wine and sake pairings, can also be good to try some local whiskeys. The restaurant is one of the island’s best-known oyster specialists and is even listed in the regional Michelin Guide.
If you’re coming here, the Premium Set is hands down the best value for money. It’s incredibly generous—2 grilled oysters, 2 deep-fried oysters, 3 oysters over rice, and even the miso soup comes with an oyster. Every single dish was delicious and really showcased the flavor in different ways. By the end of the meal, I was completely satisfied. Honestly, you probably won’t need/crave oysters again for a few days! A memorable and worthwhile experience for any oyster lover
