Some dishes don't just feed you — they tell a story. At Jay Jia Yentafo, that story is written in vivid pink. Tucked along Rama IV Road in Bang Rak, this old-school noodle shop has been a true Bangkok institution for around 60 years, long before the Michelin Guide came along to confirm what locals already knew. The first thing that catches your eye upon arrival is its unmistakable old-school charm — and the inviting sight of golden, crispy wontons piled near the counter. The Yentafo The star of the show is, naturally, the yentafo itself. Yen Ta Fo comes distinct with its signature bright pink soup, the colour derived from fermented soybean paste — a hue so vivid it almost seems too beautiful to disturb with a spoon. Almost. The broth delivers a powerful blend of sour and spicy notes, packed with shrimp, fish, fish sticks, and fried wontons, leaving a lingering, thoroughly satisfying impression. The noodles themselves are well-made — soft, rich, and fragrant — while the shrimp balls, fried tofu, and soaked squid each contribute a distinct layer of flavour without overwhelming the whole. The Crispy Wontons If the soup is the soul, the wontons are the punctuation mark. Shatteringly crisp on the outside, yielding within, they hold up remarkably well even as the meal progresses — ideal for dunking into that tangy pink broth for a textural contrast that keeps every spoonful interesting. The Experience Since being featured in the Michelin Guide 2026, the place is often packed — so expect queues, especially at lunch. The setting is no-frills and gloriously unpretentious: plastic stools, hawker-style service, and the rhythmic bustle of a kitchen that clearly knows its craft. It's the kind of place where the food does all the talking. The Verdict Jay Jia Yentafo isn't trying to reinvent the wheel — it perfected it decades ago. For anyone serious about Thai noodles, this is essential eating. The Michelin recognition is deserved, though seasoned Bangkok diners will tell you they already knew that long before the inspectors arrived.
If you find yourself wandering the streets of Bangkok craving something authentic, Jay Jia Yentafo is a spot that feels like a warm hug in a bowl. Here is my honest take on this local gem. Walking into Jay Jia Yentafo, you immediately feel the buzz of a place that doesn't need flashy signs to prove its worth. It’s humble, bustling, and smells like home-cooked comfort. I gave it a 4/5 because it captures that "old-school Bangkok" magic perfectly—it’s not about fine dining; it’s about soul. The pink noodle soup (Yentafo) has that distinct tangy, fermented bean curd flavor that hits all the right nostalgic notes. It’s savory, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying. While the noodles are great, the absolute highlights of the meal—the things I’m still dreaming about—are the fried fishballs and fried wontons. You can tell they aren’t the mass-produced kind you find at a supermarket. The fishballs have this incredible, bouncy texture with a clean, fresh taste, and when they’re fried, the outside gets that perfect golden crackle. The fried wontons are just as addictive. They are incredibly light and shatteringly crisp, making them the perfect companion to the rich broth. Honestly, even if you aren't a huge fan of pink soup, you must come here just for these snacks. They are, hands down, some of the best I’ve had in the city. It’s a straightforward, no-frills experience that reminds you why Bangkok’s street food scene is world-class. If you’re nearby, don’t skip it. Just make sure to order an extra side of those fried wontons—you’ll regret it if you don't!
The shrimp balls and pork wontons are very delicious, just as advertised. The noodles taste quite ordinary. Most importantly, don’t come at noon, it gets very crowded and you’ll have to wait a long time.
One of the best Yen-Ta-Pho in BKK. The Shrimp Meatballs 🍤🍢 and Crispy Dumplings 🥟🐷 is a Must!!! The filling of the dumplings is so soft and delicious. The soup of YenTaPho is pure in heart to cook. Don't miss to order 🍜 ⏰ open 09.00-21.00 🚙 the parking lot is rare, especially workday ♨️ queue is tight . Be patient for the yummy bowl, Worth for waiting ‼️😘
เจ๊เจี่ย | it’s a noodle shop in #bangkok but the real star of the show for me is the deep-fried shrimp balls!!! perfectly fried, not greasy (sooo good for me) I never leave without ordering them! My go-to dish is the Dry Pink noodles (the sauce leans a bit too sweet for my taste ) if you’re planning a lunch visit, so be prepared for a long wait as it’s packed with locals between the dine-in and takeout , the kitchen stays very busy !!
