A Michelin Bib Gourmand! I arrived at 10:00am on a Sunday morning when they opened, and there was no queue at all. If you’re planning to visit, I highly recommend coming early because the tables filled up surprisingly quickly within a short time. I ordered the classic bánh xèo. Although I waited around 20 minutes for it to arrive, it was clearly made fresh to order and came out piping hot, straight from the pan. The crispy exterior paired perfectly with the generous filling, and wrapping it with the fresh herbs and dipping it into the sauce made every bite even better. The food is excellent value for the price, and I can definitely see why this place is so popular. The staff is not the most friendly but i guess that’s ok🥲 My only small gripe is that they charge an additional 20,000 VND for the rice paper. Since rice paper is such a key part of the traditional bánh xèo experience, I was a little surprised that it wasn’t included with the dish. It’s very value for money though — for the size. If you’re in Ho Chi Minh City and looking to try authentic bánh xèo, this is definitely a spot worth visiting.
Visited Bánh Xèo 46A and tried their famous big Vietnamese pancake. The portion was big and crispy, but the taste felt a bit plain for me — maybe because the style is lighter and healthier compared to what I’m used to. One thing that confused us was the staff didn’t explain how to properly eat it, so we ended up eating it the wrong way at first 😅. Later we noticed other tables wrapping it with rice paper and vegetables, which probably made the experience better. Still interesting to try as a local food experience in Saigon.
I finally made the pilgrimage to Bánh Xèo 46A the same spot where Anthony Bourdain ate when he visited Saigon back in 2009. Coming here in 2026, I’m happy to say it hasn’t missed a beat. The bánh xèo comes out of the wok hot, fresh, and incredibly crispy. You can hear the crackle when it hits the plate. It’s served with piles of fresh lettuce, mustard leaf, and herbs that you wrap everything in before dipping into the sauce. It’s simple food but incredibly satisfying. What makes Vietnamese food so special is that everything is local and fresh. Herbs, vegetables, seafood it’s basically the true “100-mile diet” without even trying. Just honest ingredients working together the way they should. We also had the bánh cuốn soup, which was delicious and comforting alongside the crispy bánh xèo. The place is very busy and a bit farther from the main tourist areas, but that’s part of the charm. Places like this survive because they do one thing really well. If you’re a food lover or a fan of Anthony Bourdain, it’s absolutely worth the trip.
It was a truly delicious experience. We went there two days in a row! I tried Vietnamese crepes for the first time — they were perfectly crispy, generously filled, and incredibly flavorful with fresh herbs. The spring rolls, summer rolls, and prawn fritters were all amazing as well. Everything we tasted was outstanding. Highly recommended!
Their huge Bánh Xèo was authentic, cooked with charcoal burners. It was super crispy filled with fresh prawns, slices of pork belly and bean sprouts. It’s served with fresh lettuce and herbs. Every bite was a crunchy satisfaction. I can see why they have received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award 🥇 Grilled Prawn Paste wrapped in Sugar Cane was as good as the Bánh Xèo. It was juicy and had a lovely charred taste to it. 😋
