Don’t usually do reviews, but stumbled on this place while walking over to Bui Vien Walking Street. Legitimately one of the best food I’ve eaten in Vietnam so far and that’s an understatement to say the least! You’ll sit on low stools and eat like the locals, and at VND45,000 only?! What a privilege! Order the Bò Lá Lôt. You won’t be disappointed.
I had looked up a place to find Bò Lá Lốt (Grilled beef in betel leaves) and stumbled upon this place. For 45k this meal was an absolute dream that I probably would have been okay paying even more for. The woman and man that run the place were very kind and I could tell that they were a spot well-loved by locals and the occasional adventerous tourist alike. When I arrived, there were only locals and then in the middle of my meal, a private food tour came for a tasting (so you KNOW it's good). I will be thinking about this dish for many many moons to come and hope that I can find an accurate replica of the deliciousness and freshness of this meal when I go home!!
First of all, absolutely fantastic beef. It was perfectly bbq’d and was very tender with a great taste. We got one Oder of bo la lot and one order of mo chai, and they were both really great. Other people seem to agree because the restaurant was packed. Weirdly, the beef rolls came with Mayo on top, which is something I’ve never seen before. However, the sweet Mayo complemented the smoky beef very well. Veggies were crisp and clean. Service was fast and nice enough. The only downside is the small tables and stools and the somewhat dingy interior, but it didn’t impact the deliciousness of the food in any way. For 40k an order it was a great deal. Motorbike parking to the right of the shop on the sidewalk.
I loved this place, a real treat. They only have 3 dishes and I ordered them all. Simply the best vietnam has to offer. Great fresh greens wrapped with freshly grilled meats in rice paper. Dipped in amazing sauce. Great memrable flavours.
Space: small indoor space and some tables outside on the sideways. Space was not very clean and so was their cutlery. Didn't have the ball to use their toilet either, by the first look of their hand-washing sink. Food: one of the best grilled meat I've had in a while. Their mỡ chài is very tender and juicy despite this dish is a very tricky one to cook since it gets chewy easily. Bò lá lốt was also tender. The meats were outstandingky seasoned as well as the dipping sauce. Not very generous on the veggies ends tho. Wish there was more of the beansprouts and lettuce. They served vermicelli noodles instead of bánh hỏi which was a turn off for me but overall, everything tasted amazing. Quail egg cakes came out pipping hot, wish they'd used chilli sauce on top instead of ketchup. Regarding drinks, we had peach tea which was poured out straight of the instant tea can but again, it's an eatery so we overlooked it. They put lots of sliced canned peach as topping though. Service: this is their biggest downside. Staffs were very polite and kind but very distracted. They forgot our order from times to times and needed to be reminded constantly. Also, their service was rather messy and unorganised. We came first out of 4 tables and were the last to be served while the other customers finished their meals and left.
