Cơm tấm Nguyễn Văn Cừ
Opening Hours
Why worth it
- Another com tam (broken rice) specialist, rated 3.6 with a large review base of over 2,300
- One of Saigons most essential lunch dishes, worth trying at more than one spot to compare
- The lower rating relative to review volume suggests a divisive but well-known local option

Had lunch here recently. It is quite possibly the best “cơm tấm sườn bì chả” (broken rice with grilled pork chop, meatloaf & shredded pork skin) in Saigon but ridiculously expensive! The highlight is obviously their pork chop. Thick, juicy and large - it’s stunningly delicious. Icing in the cake is that it is served hot of the grill. It’s simply a 5 star piece of pork chop. The meat loaf and shredded pork skin are tasty as well, but not mind blowingly so. The rice and the pickled veg in sweet fish sauce are quite run of the mill. Had a side of Mushrooms/Potato/Carrot soup that was also very satisfying. So overall, definitely the most delicious com tam I have enjoyed in Saigon. The problem is the value of the meal. A normal com tam meal is about VND50-70K and an expensive but tasty com tam meal will likely put you back between VND90-120K Here is roughly what I paid at Cơm Tấm Nguyễn Văn Cừ: 1 plate of com tam is just at grilled pork chop - VND190K 1 plate of com tam with the meatloaf and shredded pork skin - VND150K 1 bowl of mushroom/potato/carrot soup - VND50K 2 glasses iced jasmine tea - VND10K Total cost - VND400K (S$20, US$15, RM63, THB510, PHP940) (Exact breakdown may be slightly off but total is of 400K is correct. ) (The serves are large so I actually spilt the pork chop, meatloaf and shredded pork skin across both plates and we had ample for a meal). Would I come back? I probably will as it was an exceptionally satisfying meal but perhaps only once every 3 months or so. 🤣 #whiskydev #comtam #foodgasm #vietnamesefood #saigon
This is a famous broken rice (com tam) shop in HCM. During lunch time is always packed with customers. You will see not only the local, there are also many foreigners and tourists that like to eat here. Mostly Koreans. The pork chop there is quite nice but I find the pork chop meat a bit too thick. I quite like their soup also. The staffs always busy and can be inattentive to your service. The price here is also quite expensive. Pork chop rice is 190k dong, soup is 50k dong. Any other add-on will be additional 10k dong. This pricing is considered expensive in Vietnam.
Known to be a very expensive place, expensive even by North American pricing standards. The most expensive cơm tấm place in the city, operating since 1989. I got the standard broken rice and pork chop, and all the add-ons, which is honestly too much, but my main goal is just to taste it all, since I don’t come to Vietnam often. My order: Cơm Tấm Sườn (Broken Rice with Pork Chop) 160.000 VND + Bì (Shredded Pork Rinds) 10.000 VND + Chả (Egg Meatloaf) 10.000 VND + Trứng (Sunnyside-Up Egg) 10.000 VND + Xíu Mại (Meatball) 10.000 VND + Lạp Xưởng (Pork Sausage) 60.000 VND If I do get this next time, I’d just get broken rice and pork chop, and nothing else. As for the price, I think it’s far overpriced, and this place isn’t THAT special. The pork chop is definitely good. Despite being a more lean cut, the meat wasn’t dry. It was thick and well grilled. Everything else was just alright.
If you don’t mind about pricing, broken rice with bbq pork chops here is 10/10, everything else is not perfect but not bad as well. Service is average. I came here for there signature dish, everything else is just a minor to me, that’s why I give them 4/5
Food is okay only, nothing stands out that would make you say wow. The price is very high and there is no vegie, you have to pay extra for everything. No air condition. Breakfast cost 1.5 mil vietnam dong.
