We stumbled upon Takoyaki Shioya in Osaka knowing it was famous, but we didn’t expect it to leave such a strong impression. It’s often described as the world’s smallest takoyaki shop, and that’s no exaggeration. The space is tiny, but what comes out of it is anything but small. The takoyaki here was genuinely delicious, and importantly, not gimmicky at all. Everything was made fresh on the spot, piping hot, and done with real care. Texture-wise, it leaned towards the softer, slightly chewy side, which we loved. Comforting, well-balanced, and incredibly easy to keep eating. There was no unnecessary flair, just solid technique and flavour. What really elevated the experience was the person running the stall. The warmth, personality, and unmistakable Japanese politeness made the interaction feel sincere and memorable. Even with people constantly stopping by, there was a calmness and pride in how everything was prepared and served. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered twice. No hesitation. That alone probably says more than any long description could. Yes, you’re likely standing around while eating, and yes, the shop is unbelievably small, but that’s part of what makes it special.
Best takoyaki and service! Piping hot ! Absolutely must have - a hole in the wall! Got one order and ordered another one
A great spot for a quick snack of you’re in the area. Like many travellers, we were drawn here by its unique reputation, and it truly is something you have to see in person to appreciate just how small the space is. The takoyaki was delicious, freshly made with care. It was inspiring to watch the owner in action – so efficient, focused and graceful despite the tight space. Running a place like this takes real dedication, and it shows.
Its a small shop round a corner. It is runner by a very polite old lady. The tako taste great - soft yet slight crispy on the outside. She offered cups to her costumers to drink water and even inform when we need to wait.
A wonderful hole in the wall Takoyaki joint. No frills. Just Takoyaki and drinks. Soft supple Takoyaki with a big tender piece of octopus in the middle with all the fixings. Could not ask for anything more. Store owner was extremely friendly and spoke a little English too!
