There was already a line when I arrived, and I waited about 15 minutes to get my order. Totally worth it though! The shop itself has a whimsical, storybook charm with warm wood, cozy lighting, and quirky decor. It’s a small but charming space that’s easy to fall in love with. I tried the Custard Mille Feuille and it was genuinely delicious. The pastry was incredibly crispy and flaky, and the custard cream inside was smooth, velvety, and not overly sweet. Everything is made fresh daily, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. That said, it is quite a generous portion and started to feel a little heavy halfway through. I think it would be perfect as a sharing dessert, or if they offered a smaller size option, that would be a nice touch. It’s also worth noting that the mille feuille can be quite messy to eat, so having tissues on hand is a good idea! Pricewise, it sits around 1,200 yen which is on the pricier side for a pastry, but given the quality and the fact that it’s made fresh to order, it feels justified. Despite the price and the slightly heavy finish, I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely consider coming back to try other flavors. A truly special treat if you’re in the Umeda area!
My friends and I tried out the brulee millefeuille. It was perfectly flaky and filled all the way with a light custard. Shared between the three of us as it was a bit bigger than we expected. We all enjoyed how the custard didn’t taste too sweet. Grenier offers butter cookies, madeleines, financiers, and other delicious baked goods that are boxed for gift giving. The space is small and cozy with warm lighting that makes it feel like a little escape from the city. Would recommend trying out their classic brûlée millefeuille or any of their other flavors as it all looked great.
A Masterpiece of Japanese Pastry Artistry 🥐✨ I have one word: Wow. Following a recommendation from a random Instagram reel, we ventured to Grenier at the Umeda branch, and it turned out to be one of the most transcendent culinary experiences of our Osaka trip. How they achieve this texture is a culinary mystery. This isn't just a pastry; it’s an architectural feat of fragility and flavor. The puff is so incredibly delicate that it is challenging even to hold. It shatters and melts the moment it touches your palate. It is, without exaggeration, the softest, most ethereal pastry I have ever encountered. ☁️💥The filling is perfectly balanced—rich, smooth, and designed to elevate the pastry rather than overwhelm it. Every bite is a harmonious blend of crunch and silk. 🥛🍓 The Tea: We paired our treat with a Hot Tea, which was functional and pleasant, though it felt "average" in comparison to the sheer brilliance of the puff. In a contest of flavors, the pastry is clearly the undisputed star! ☕ Osaka truly earns its reputation as a "Food Heaven" with gems like this. If you are in the Umeda area, do not hesitate—this is a top-tier, "must-try" experience for anyone with a sweet tooth or an appreciation for expert baking.
I prefer the puff with strawberry 🍓 rather than the signature custard. But they are too much for 1 person. I feel greasy after finish the whole piece myself. I think if they can make a smaller version, I would enjoy it more. The store is nicely decorated. If you are around it’s nice to visit but there is no need to make an effort for it.
A friend recommended this place to me and said “it was the best dessert he had in Japan”. It’s a cute little spot that looks like it came out of a French story book conveniently located right next to Osaka station. I got the crème brûlée custard pastry and it was really good. Nice, glassy crunch on the brûlée followed by flaky pastry and closed out with a nice, cool custard. It was nice that there wasn’t a line or wait for this place despite it being in such a high foot traffic area.
