Takoyaki Juhachiban Dotonbori was such a satisfying stop for our family. Their takoyaki is seriously so good, chewy, flavorful, and very enjoyable in every bite. Even our kids loved it, which always makes the experience even better. This is the kind of snack that feels simple, but when done right like this, it becomes very memorable. What I really like is that they have several tasty options, so you can choose based on what you are craving. You can enjoy the classic sauce version, sauce with mayonnaise, salt, or even a half and half option if you want to try more than one flavor in a single order. That makes it easy whether you just want a quick snack or something a little more satisfying. The texture is one of the highlights here. The batter has a rich, soft, slightly chewy character that makes each bite very satisfying and different from more ordinary takoyaki. Freshly made, full of flavor, and comforting in the best way. Be ready for the queue because this place is popular, especially in busy Dotonbori, but the good news is the service is fast, so the line moves quite efficiently. For me, it is absolutely worth it. A great family friendly takoyaki stop in Osaka, and definitely one I would happily come back to.
Takoyaki Juhachiban, located right in the heart of Dotonbori, offers a fantastic takoyaki experience. The takoyaki itself is delicious, wonderfully crispy on the outside, perfectly soft and creamy on the inside, and packed with savory flavor. It is served piping hot, making it an excellent street food snack for anyone exploring the area. The only downside is that the location gets incredibly crowded and the queue can be quite long, making it a bit difficult to find a comfortable spot to stand and eat. However, the quality of the food is excellent, and it is definitely worth the wait for those craving an authentic Osaka street food experience.
What makes Juhachiban stand out is the incredible texture. They use a ton of tenkasu (tempura scraps) in the batter, giving the outside a unique, addictive crunch that you won't find at other stalls. However, I found the overall flavor a bit lacking. The dashi in the batter is quite subtle, and if you don't go heavy on the toppings, it can taste a little plain. It’s a solid 4-star snack for the crunch and the quality of the octopus, but it could use a bit more "punch" in the seasoning.
An absolute must-visit when in Osaka! The takoyaki was outstanding — perfectly crispy on the outside and soft, creamy, and flavorful inside with generous pieces of octopus. The sauce and bonito flakes added the perfect finishing touch. Despite the busy Dotonbori crowd, service was quick and efficient. The lively street atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. One of the best takoyaki spots I’ve tried in Osaka. Highly recommend!
The tako balls have bits of rice crisps inside, which gives them a unique crispy texture. However, I was not a huge fan because they fall apart way too easily when you try to eat them. Just a heads up for anyone visiting, they only accept cash!
