We decided to try this place because it's very popular, but unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations. We waited in line for a while, which is understandable given its reputation, but the takoyaki itself was disappointing. There was only a small amount of octopus in each piece, and the overall flavor wasn't as good as we had hoped. They were decent, but we've had better elsewhere in Osaka. The prices are affordable, so it's not an expensive place to try, but the quality didn't justify the wait for us. We also ate inside the restaurant, which was very crowded. The atmosphere felt a bit hectic, and the staff didn't seem particularly attentive or friendly. We understand they were busy, but the overall experience wasn't very welcoming. Overall, while it's a well-known spot, we don't think it's worth the queue. There are plenty of other places in Osaka serving better takoyaki with a more enjoyable dining experience.
Takoyaki is the absolute king of street food in Osaka, and specifically Dotonbori. You can find shops selling these everywhere. I decided to go to this place since the reviews seemed the best of the bunch. As standard, the Takoyaki comes with mayo and bonito flakes on top. You place an order, and get a container of 8 balls a few minutes later. Don't underestimate how molten hot these are - if you try taking a bite immediately, it's going to burn your mouth. It takes at least five minutes for them to cool down enough for consumption. I liked this overall. I was a little surprised that the balls were not crispy and felt soft instead, but I get it in that everything made sense together as a gooey mess. Even though these takoyaki look fried - they are grilled instead in little indents. The octopus inside was pretty great - it didn't feel rubbery; instead being soft, hot, and creamy. Each ball had a decent portion of the octopus inside. I also really liked the toppings on top - they added to the experience well. The whole thing felt like a hot, gooey mess in your paper container, so I wouldn't say it was a top-quality experience, but it was certainly still enjoyable. The price was under 1000 yen for 8 balls, making this a good deal as well. 8 is pretty filling. Overall, I definitely liked my first takoyaki experience at this place, and I wouldn't mind coming back. 8.15/10
You know a place is good when there is a line of locals waiting, and this spot absolutely lives up to the hype. The takoyaki is crispy on the outside and packed with umami flavor. You can customize your order with toppings like chili powder, green onions, and cheese, along with a choice of sauces including regular mayo, mentai mayo, or vinegar sauce. There is a dining area behind the food stall. The indoor seating can fit about 15 people total across the first and second floors.
Dotonbori is packed with takoyaki stalls, and many seem quite similar. I chose this spot because most others offered larger portions, while I wanted something lighter. I went for the takosen — a crisp rice cracker sandwiching two takoyaki balls. The staff were friendly and pleasant, there was no line, and service was quick. As others have mentioned, the takoyaki came out piping hot, so it’s best to let them cool slightly before eating. The flavor was enjoyable, not overly fishy, and different from what I had imagined. I expected something crispy, but the texture was more soft and gooey. It was messy to eat, yet still nice overall. While it’s not something I’d have regularly, I’d happily try it again.
This place is a must-visit if you’re exploring the vibrant Dotonbori area. We ordered the platter with four different flavor options (about 850 yen), which was perfect for sampling a variety in one go. Each piece was freshly made, piping hot, and beautifully crisp on the outside. What stood out most was how incredibly moist and soft the inside was — exactly how great takoyaki should be. The texture was creamy without being too runny, and the flavors were well-balanced across the different toppings. They also provide indoor seating with water and napkins, which makes it a great little hideout when it’s raining. Overall, a very satisfying and value-for-money snack experience in Osaka.
