Only later I got to know that this place is the oldest 'western style' restaurant in Osaka. Honestly I don't know what exactly is western here, as it all seemed Japanese to me, but never the less, it was very delicious. Another place where locals and tourists alike eat here. I can definitly recommend everyone to try their iconic Meibutsu Curry. I personally rate it 4.5 (visited on 17.10.2025)
Curry had unique rich taste thanks to the egg. If you're fan of Japanese curry, you have to try this. I like that the waitress and owner(?) are very attentive. Go around 4pm on a weekday to avoid the crowds during the lunch rush.
An Osaka classic: Jiyūken’s dry curry rice topped with a raw egg yolk. The kitchen is run by older aunties who stay calm and efficient despite the rush. Even if there’s a line, the wait isn’t long since diners often share tables with strangers. The curry is bold and flavorful, mildly spicy with a touch of acidity. The raw egg yolk is the soul of the dish—it smooths and binds the entire plate of rice together. For under 1,000 yen, this humble, everyday meal delivers a uniquely memorable flavor. Was lucky to get a table here during our visit to Osaka. The restuarant manages to keep the good old charm vibes that will take you back to the 80's. Tried the Omu Rice alongside a few other local recommendations. Given that this is near Dotonbori it works perfectly for anyone who has this place planned for shoping and are also looking for an authentic place to eat.
Tried it out after seeing Japan Eats do a video in it. Has a very retro style interior and decor, making it feel as though you've travelled back in time. For those who aren't fans of raw whole eggs, while it may look unappetising, the dish itself has alot of flavour and the slimy texture is nigh undetectable once it's all mixed in. Also tried the croquettes and steak, which were cooked nicely too and a good addition. Would recommend if you crave curry or want to see what Jap-Western fusion food tastes like.
