Hey there. This restaurant had been sitting in my tour guide’s bookmarked list for a while, and apparently, it is considered one of the most famous okonomiyaki spots in the area. Naturally, I had to find out for myself. So, in May 2026, my family and I stopped by for dinner. And if you are a father traveling with family, you already know the mission. Find a place everybody enjoys. No pressure, right? At first, we accidentally walked up to the second floor, only to realize the actual entrance was on the first floor. Thankfully, the staff kindly guided us in the right direction. Now, about the food. Overall? Pretty solid. We ordered several dishes, and everybody seemed satisfied. One thing I should mention though. I have a buckwheat allergy, so I was a little hesitant to order yakisoba. Fortunately, I did not have any adverse reaction afterward, which was a huge relief. Maybe their noodles were not made with buckwheat, but if you have allergies like me, definitely double check with the staff before ordering. Better safe than sorry. But honestly, the most memorable part for me was not even the food itself. It was watching the cooks work right in front of us. We were seated at the counter, which turned out to be the best seat in the house. The chefs moved with incredible speed and precision, almost like performers on a stage. One cook was spreading mayonnaise from what felt like half a meter away with quick wrist snaps like he had practiced it for years. It was strangely impressive. The staff and cooks seemed to come from different countries, but everybody worked together smoothly and treated customers with genuine kindness and professionalism. The restaurant was extremely crowded, so expect to wait in line for a while. But between the lively atmosphere, the open kitchen, and the whole experience of watching the chefs in action, I would say it was worth it. Enjoy.
Incredible Okonomiyaki!!! We came on a Tuesday for early dinner, there was no wait and we were able to get counter seats by the grill. All the staff was very helpful and friendly. There are English menus with pictures that make it very easy to order. The price was a bit high in my opinion, but the taste was delicious, so I would say it is worth it. We tried the Osaka and the Hiroshima Okonomiyakis as well as the gyoza. Everything was delicious but if I had to choose only one, I would recommend the Hiroshima style. Great experience!
I stopped by CHIBO Dotonbori after seeing it bookmarked for a while, and it definitely lived up to the hype around its okonomiyaki. The atmosphere felt lively and very much in line with the Dotonbori energy, which made the visit even more memorable. I’m glad I gave it a try, and it was one of those places that stands out during a trip.
Visited during a short trip to Osaka and due to positive reviews while in the Dotonbori area. Chibo is best known for their okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) which is made fresh to order. They offer a number of different types of okonomiyaki, such as the traditional style, the Hiroshima style and others. Their most popular okonomiyaki was the Dontonbori Okonomiyaki, which was an Okonomiyaki that had no noodles, but was loaded with cabbage, shrimp and pork belly. Given recommendations, additional toppings that can be added (for a fee) include a fried egg and chives. The okonomiyaki was quite filling on its own for one, and could be shared between two people given its size. The other okonomyaki styles have yakisoba noodles included, so that can be an option if looking to have a more traditional style. Overall, it's a decent place to try okonomiyaki while in the Dotonbori area. Lineups were expected due to how popular it was, but they tend to turnover fairly quickly. For a solo dining experience, the best seating was by the teppanyaki grill as you can see the staff prepare okonomiyaki right in front. Service was also fairly friendly and they also had an English menu available as well.
A group of friends and I met up in the Dotonbori area and got started by having lunch at Chibo Okonomiyaki at around 1 PM. We were a group of six and expected to wait a while before getting a table but it only took 2 minutes. It’s a busy environment but we were able to talk fine. The menu was laid out with photos, English description, and also a popular menu ranking. This made it easy for our group to decide what to order. We decided to get numbers #1-3. The staff will bring out the okonomiyaki onto the grill for us and then the table is responsible for it from there. The staff will also drizzle mayo on top as well. For the grill, they do give the table a small little spatula, which is neat. At the table, you’ll also find further mayo, spices, seaweed, bonito flakes, etc. This was great spot that left our group satisfied. Recommend it!
