We came last month, but sod's law meant we picked the one day they were closed (Wednesday)! So glad we returned today. I had the pork Massaman curry and my friend had the Indian-style chicken noodles. I love Massaman curry, but I've stopped ordering it because it's so hard to find a really good one. Wow—Aroy Aroy really hits the spot. It doesn't get much better! It's also very unusual to find a pork Massaman in Thailand, so that's a double bonus. The pork was incredibly tender and delicious. My friend's dish was excellent—very similar to a Khao Soi but with a few extras. We'll be back many times. Highly recommended!
Great old-school Thai lunch spot. This is one of those places where the dishes are cooked fresh in advance and you simply choose from a selection of around ten classic favorites. I had the green curry and, for the first time, Gaeng Kee Lek - a slightly bitter curry with pork and cassia leaves. It was unlike any Thai curry I’ve had before and definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something different. The team is incredibly friendly, and the value for money is hard to beat.
Delicious Masaman curry! It's nutty and a little spicy. I saw some comments say it's sweet, but I didn't think it was, it was savory goodness. We came back and tried the green curry and it was absolutely delicious! It recommend it sooo much!
It doesn’t get more local than this - authentic Thai flavors, generous portions, and prices that are easy on the wallet. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor. Highly recommended if you’re looking for great food without the splurge. Came back at least three times during my short stay in Bangkok.
Krua Aray Aroy is the kind of place that reminds you why Bangkok’s food scene is so exciting. From the first bite, the popular massaman curry stands out not just for its flavor but also for its beautifully smooth consistency. The oil and broth are perfectly blended, giving each spoonful a rich, velvety texture rather than anything greasy or separated. The potatoes are cooked soft enough to absorb the curry, yet still holding their shape, while the chicken is tender and flavorful without being overdone (which is a problem when I cook it at home). Now and then, you come across an actual peanut, which is a small but meaningful detail. It’s a reminder that this isn’t a shortcut kitchen relying on premade sauces, but one that uses real ingredients and traditional methods. Despite being an open-air restaurant, it’s surprisingly comfortable, even on a Tuesday morning when the temperature hit 95°F (about 35°C). There’s a fan breeze inside the restaurant, and the neighborhood is lively and full of character. The colorful temple just across the street adds to the nice experience that feels uniquely Bangkok.
