Phở Dậu
Why worth it
- A 60-year-old phở institution in District 3, famous for a distinctly Northern-style bowl that stands out from typical Saigon phở
- Known for its firm stance on tradition — no bean sprouts, no sweet hoisin, staying true to the original Hanoi recipe
- A beloved cult favorite, packed daily despite (or because of) its unusual, uncompromising style

I wouldn’t recommend this place. At 100k, it feels overpriced compared to other options in Vietnam. It used to be a spot my parents loved, but on my recent visit it seems to have lost its touch. The portion was small and the broth was bland. The meat looked pale and didn’t seem very fresh or high quality. They also served a large bowl of onions on the side instead of a more balanced set of toppings. Very disappointing for pho.
Dig into these bowls on a light, rainy morning with my partner. This place is located in a big alley. The establishment isn't so big, but there are a lot of seats around the store, outdoor and indoor. About the bowl, the broth is okay but didn't meet my taste, however, the well-done and crispy beef flanks are delicious. They also serve a small bowl of sliced onion; you can mix it with the formula on the table and eat it together with the beef. This place is popular, but you don't have to wait too long to get your food.
Pho Dau is very different with other pho places in HCM. People who try it 1st time, may not like it. But after few times, you just keep coming back... Super good 👍👍
Phở Dậu – Classic northern-style phở in Saigon. Clear, naturally sweet broth, tender beef, and simple traditional flavor. No-frills space but quality is excellent. A must-try if you love authentic, old-school phở. ⭐️ 8.5/10
It's Phở restaurant, which is from year 1958. It's one of the oldest Pho restaurant in HCMC. Probably the 3rd oldest? Pho Minh, Pho Le, then may be this shop. Then it's very popular, so many people were coming even though it's not cheap. The Pho itself was really good with sliced onion. It tastes new to me as Pho. The combination was really good. As Pho, It may be one of the best Pho in HCMC, but the price is a bit high...actually similar price to the other Michelin selected shops. I think it could be selected though.
