If you don't speak Japanese, let me tell you how it works. They only serve one kind of ramen. The only question they ask is, do you want garlic. So you can just say yes or no to that. They seat 6 people at a time, so as soon as you're part of the 6, you enter the front of the store to buy a token from a machine. (Pic) That token determines the size of your bowl. (Pictured is 3rd of 5 sizes.) When you're seated you put that token on the top counter. They will prepare fresh ramen for exactly 6 people, ask each if you'd like garlic, then hand you your bowl. This style of ramen, you don't drink the broth, so they don't even give you a spoon. When you're done, put your bowl back on the top counter, use their towel to wipe your table surface, say arigato gozaimasu and leave satisfied.
Tightly packed in at the counter. They don’t speak English. I got a small with pork for 750¥ way too big for me to finish. The flavor of the ramen was impeccable.. so rich and salty. It was delicious and will be going back next time I’m in Japan.
Visited around 11 a.m. on a weekday, with about three people ahead of me in line. It seems this shop opens quite early in the morning. I’ve heard that it gets very crowded during peak hours, but thanks to the early visit and it being a weekday, I was able to get in without much waiting. Knowing it’s a Jiro-style ramen shop, my excitement was already building. Order of the day ◆ Small Pork Ramen (Shōbuta Ramen) – ¥850 Toppings: All “mashi” (maxed out) And still — this volume at this price? Insanely affordable. The bowl has a massive visual impact, but the soup itself is actually on the milder side. Add the abura (fat) and garlic, and the flavor becomes intensely bold — yet somehow, you just keep eating and eating. The noodles have that signature thick, slightly uneven, gooey texture — the roughness of the noodle surface is exactly what makes it so delicious. Fully immersed in the overwhelming junkiness, I still managed to finish the bowl. A true experience of Jiro-style ramen at its core. ごちそうさまでした — thank you for the meal.
It has probably the biggest portion of food I’ve ever seen in Japan! I considered myself a big eater but I cannot finish the small portion ramen with pork… Chashu(pork) 4/5: all very tender and flavorful. Just a little bit too salty to my taste. Noodles 3/5. It’s good but I prefer Ichiran style thin firm noodles. Soup 3/5. Even it’s soy sauce based it’s pretty tasty. Portion 5/5. Never see anything like this in Japan for 850 yen… There must be one pound of pork in my bowl (6-7 super thick slices). Should just go with basic small ramen which I believe will have Chashu as well. Arrived at 8:40 am and waited about 20 minutes to get in.
Queue for 1 hour. Small shop, probably 13 customers at most. Largest portion I had. Slightly salty. Value for money Will come back with an empty stomach next time to finish it!
