A friend told me I had to visit Karashibi Miso Ramen Kikanbo Kanda Honten, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Without a doubt, this is one of my top five ramen spots in all of Tokyo. Everything about the experience was unforgettable the rich and flavorful ramen, the unique style, the efficient system, and the deep sense of tradition and culture that makes this place so special. The line can get absolutely crazy, but we got lucky and arrived just before the crowd exploded. Watching the energy build as more and more people lined up only confirmed that we had found something special. Every bite was worth the wait. If you’re a ramen lover visiting Tokyo, Kikanbo is a must. The ordering machines had some issues but that didn’t stop them from getting things done.
For fans of spicy ramen, there is no better place than Kikanbo. And because I take my ramen very seriously, I always arrive about half an hour before they open to make sure I’m one of the first in line. There is a vending machine to purchase and pay (cash only) for a ramen voucher prior to entry. There are five spice levels, ranging from non-spicy all the way to “Devil Spicy.” While it’s tempting to test my limits, I’ll admit I’m a bit of a chicken and have only worked my way up to level two and even that leaves my tongue on fire. Despite the heat, the miso broth is incredibly creamy and well-balanced, and every single component from the egg to the crispy bean sprouts is executed perfectly. The miso-based broth is deeply rich and complex, simmered for over 10 hours with pork bones, chicken bones, and a variety of vegetables. The heat comes from their signature chili oil, made from a perfectly balanced blend of six different red peppers. The bowl is topped with tender braised pork belly, baby corn, bean sprouts, and a perfectly cooked egg, then finished with an extra drizzle of red pepper to match your chosen spice level. Hands down, this is one of the best bowls of ramen I’ve ever had. It’s so good that I always make sure to squeeze in another visit to Kikanbo before leaving Japan.
This Raman blows your mind it’s so delicious tbe broth is so incredible and the pork melts in your mouth. The spiciest level of both is a good amount it’s not too crazy just elevates the dish even more. Can be busy but so worth the wait it took us around 20 minutes to be seated.
Excellent non typical flavor ramen. The cook will fry garlic and other things in oil before adding in a soup base and adding in miso before pouring it in your bowl to order. Pork is melt in your mouth flavorful chunk of meat which is also not the typical thin slice you get. Opted for the single piece. But definitely could have done the double pork. After getting your ticket you will be asked what level of spiciness and numbing you would like. Line up usually ends up across the street so make sure you manage your time.
When we got there we got lucky as there was no line. The ramen was great, rich-flavored. The meat was very tender. There are many spice levels to choose from, and the design is filled with different oni masks and ambient lights. No tables, only bar seats.
