I had such an authentic local experience at Lamai Fresh Food Market in Lamai! This market feels truly local — not touristy at all — and most of the vendors are friendly residents selling fresh produce, street food, and everyday Thai ingredients. Prices are incredibly reasonable, with tasty snacks and meals costing so much less than other spots on the island. The atmosphere is relaxed and real, with locals shopping and chatting long after work, and the market typically closes around 8 PM, which is perfect for an evening wander before dinner. I loved trying the local Thai dishes and picking up fresh fruit to take home. Great place to see real Samui life and eat well without spending much
Fresh Food Market Lamai is one of those places that reminds you how things should be done. No fluff, no pretending—just proper, honest food. Everything looks fresh, moves fast, and you can tell it hasn’t been sitting around waiting for a tourist to notice it. That’s a good sign. The variety is strong. You’ve got your staples—fruit, veg, seafood, meats—but also enough local options to keep it interesting if you actually want to eat like you’re in Thailand, not just pass through it. Prices are fair, portions are real, and there’s a sense of trust in what you’re buying. What stands out is the energy. It’s busy, a bit chaotic in the best way, and very real. Vendors know their products, transactions are quick, and there’s none of that overpolished, overpriced feel you get in more “curated” markets. If you want fresh ingredients, local flavor, and an authentic slice of Lamai life—this is where you go. Simple, efficient, and doing exactly what it’s meant to
I love fresh food markets. I make sure that every place I visit, I take out some time to go to their fresh food market. This helps me understand the regional culture, their food habbit and also gives me a golden opportunity to eat what locals eat there. At Lamai I found one of the tastiest coconut pudding along other Thai foods. The range is crazy.. and the taste of freshly cooked food is probably the best. There is variety of vegetarian options available as well.
Small but interesting market. We found the food alright, perhaps we went in the afternoon and so stalls were closed. The fruit juices at the end of the market were good and the coconuts were so sweet! Venture here for some local market visiting and action, we bought some sauces for a fraction of the prices at TOPs.
