One of the best food we’ve eaten during our visit. Authentic hole in a wall and a neighborhood restaurant all in one. Its tucked beside the only train tracks in Fujiyoshida Its a one- lady operation so when it gets full, please be patient although when we visited we were the only customers. Whilst the place is quite simple, they still have a smart toilet!! I ordered the everything in it udon. Note - they use horse meat there so be open to the experience. Horse meat is gamey but delicious. We hope to drop by again in the future!
Delicious handmade Udon! There are only 6 tables inside, so you might have to wait for your turn. Friendly service! They had a separate English menu but the order sheet was is Japanese.
I was looking for a place to try the regional specialty (Yoshida udon, with niku/horse meat) and found reviews for this location. It's a local restaurant outside the main town with it's own small carpark and dedicated local customers. There are six tables with floor seating/tatami mats, leave your shoes at the door. We were offered an English menu, and the host/chef/cashier (all in one, so busy!) assisted us with ordering. The food was simple but hearty. It was also a wonderful cultural experience: driving carefully through the tight corridors between residences, filling in your own order, enjoying the local specialty with the local residents, cleaning up your own table for the next people in line. Everything rolled out so quickly and the food was delicious and nourishing - even the *cabbage* was delicious and flavoursome. And, following the road back alongside the railway tracks, we also saw a family of wild monkeys relaxing by the side of the road.
So good! We wandered into this udon restaurant on our way back from hiking up to the falls, and it did not disappoint. They gave us an English menu, we ordered, sat down, and the food was quick to come out. When we finished we got up to pay. In the back you could see them making the udon by hand. This was hands down the best udon I have ever had!! We left and continued walking towards town in the rain, and the owner came out in her car and stopped us on the road to give us umbrellas. Great food and hospitality!! Will come back the next time I am visiting.
Delicious homemade Udon and a very friendly staff! Definitely worth the trip!
