Sanshiki Udon Restaurant
Why worth it
- An udon specialist, rated 4.4 across a solid review base
- Sanshiki (three colors) in the name suggests a signature multi-colored noodle presentation
- A good pick for a lighter noodle option alongside Kyotos heavier ramen and sushi choices

This is simple, affordable, no-frills Japanese comfort food. My curry udon was savory and full of depth; it didn’t just taste like the curry roux blocks at the supermarket. Tempura was solid too. On a weekday at noon there was a bit of a wait for our party of 4, but the servers were very helpful in moving things along so we could have a table. They took our order in advance so that the food was ready by the time a table opened up.
Watched a YouTube video, where this shop was featured and liked the whole food preparation as well as the final dishes. We arrived a bit late, but that probably reduced the waiting time, as we only encountered 1 person before us. The menu is simple and straight forward. It took about 10 minutes to serve our dishes and while usually like the udon a bit harder, my wife really liked the softer noodles served here. The shrimp tempura was delicious as was the beef. The broth was light and flavorful, but I did help things with the chilli spice available at the table. One thing I also found notable is the cold tea (oolong?) provided free of charge, instead of the usual water only. Great place, if you are looking for a simple, but tasty bowl of udon.
Super solid udon. Such good texture to the noodle! We tried the soup version with tempura and the more concentrated “half covered” version with cold udon noodles and it was really refreshing and yummy. The server was also incredibly friendly as well. Beware that they may close early if they run out of ingredients!
reasonable price, reallyyy good udon and short time waiting, ill definitely return to try other udon in their menu however, its cash only and the restaurant is quite small so its better to come early to avoid queuing
Strongly recommend the cold udon. I had the beef and chicken udon. The chicken tempura is superb, super tender. I prefer it crispy and not soaking in the sauce, so I fished it out quickly. The cold udon has a springy texture. The bite is good. The egg tempura was more well done than I expected. Will give that a miss. We ordered extra chicken and prawn tempura. Really good. Cash only.
