so we were starving for the dinner and decided to choose the nearby curry restaurant and we ended up here. turned out they got a very delicious tempura. i'm a moslem so i didn't eat the best seller curry since it contains pork but luckily they have a vegan curry option which not use pork. well i don't know how a curry supposed to taste but it's quite yummy. but i really love their tempura. it's the best i've tasted while i'm at Kyoto. it's crunchy and not oily, the shrimps and vegetables are big compared to the flour. i think you must try their tempura. the staffs are also super friendly and let us stay for a while even when they're about to close the area (since we're waiting for our friends to come). it was a very cold winter but this restaurant gave us warmth. thank you!

A Creative and Delicious Culinary Highlight in Gion! If you are looking for a unique and memorable meal in Kyoto, this hidden gem in the Gion district is an absolute must-visit. The concept is brilliantly creative, serving a modern twist on Japanese comfort food right inside a traditional wooden sushi bucket (sushi oke). The presentation is stunning. The meal features two distinct curry styles split across multigrain rice: a milder, savory minced meat curry and a spicier, deeply flavorful sesame-and-soybean blend with incredible depth. Halfway through the meal, you pour the delicate dashi broth over the remaining curry and rice, transforming it into a rich, comforting soup curry. It’s an interactive and delicious way to eat. The tempura is served piping hot, incredibly light, and perfectly crispy without being greasy—dipping it in the matcha salt is the perfect touch. The atmosphere blends historic Kyoto charm with a clean, modern aesthetic, and the hospitality is wonderful. Highly recommended!

We had a really fun time at this Japanese tempura spot! The food was absolutely delicious—we tried the spicy version (meat), and the vegetarian option, and they were all fantastic. The staff was incredibly accommodating and even took the time to teach us a few Japanese words. To top it off, we got free hojicha ice cream for dessert! I can absolutely recommend this place. Definitely worth a visit!

Although we weren’t exactly a fan with the food, we were in love with this cosy, serene and unique vibe! Although the taste wasn’t to our liking (especially the bean curry sauce), the presentation and idea of different “stages” of curry was one of a kind, and the combination with tempura was also refreshing. It seemed the rice was always ready to be served as it’s cooked beforehand, while tempura would take a little time as it needed to be made on the spot. We also loved this neighborhood - truly “old Kyoto” vibe.

This place is soooo good! Japan has been harder than anticipated as a vegetarian so places like this are worth their weight in gold!!🤭 I loved the quirky style of the way they presented the food, and it’s a very cosy setting too. The staff were so kind and friendly! I had the vegan set meal and the tempura veg was 10/10 - I can HIGHLY recommend!! There was a tiny tiny wait for food but the staff used the time wisely and let us have menus and even took our order while we waited so that when we sat down the food was almost ready. So so good!
