京都 下町のお好み焼き昌・べた焼きの専門店 Traditional Kyoto-style Okonomiyaki
Why worth it
- A neighborhood okonomiyaki and betayaki specialist, rated an exceptional 4.9
- The name translates roughly to a downtown Kyoto-style okonomiyaki specialty shop
- Betayaki is a thinner, crepe-like relative of okonomiyaki — worth trying if youve only had the thicker Osaka style
- The very high rating with a solid review base suggests a genuine local favorite rather than a tourist spot

Ken-san was gracious enough to allow my husband and I to claim the last 2 seats for dinner and it was exceptional - worth the wait, and we recommend the grilled potato salad in addition to the okonomiyaki. Every aspect of the food was amazing and we were able to enjoy a nice time watching it be made while we waited. We hadn’t read the reviews ahead of time (d’oh), so we realize now just how lucky we were to have the opportunity - this is a private dining location, typically serving members or those who know members…all of that to say, don’t be upset if you can’t get in and be grateful if you do! Ken-san, thank you so much - this meal was, by far, our favorite experience in Japan ♡
Absolutely the best Okonomiyaki ever! 🥢 The owner, a former boxer turned farmer, cooks your meal using ingredients from his very own farm — and you can really taste the freshness. It’s his hobby, but the passion and care he puts into each dish make it feel like fine dining. The wait might be a bit long, but trust me, it’s totally worth it! Everything about this place is amazing — from the food to the atmosphere. Highly recommended
I've had several okonomiyaki while in Japan and this was by far my favourite. Please note that this is a small, solo-cook restaurant so come here if you have an hour and a half to spare for dinner and want the experience of having a nice drink, chatting, watching the cooking and some TV while you wait. We had the negiyaki (spring onion pancake) and beef tendon okonomiyaki, both super tasty.
Our first time trying Okonomiyaki. We were lucky and got straight into this place that has only 6-8 seats. The owner told us it wasn’t a quick meal to prepare but we were eating within 10-15 minutes and could see him preparing as we waited. He also had enough English to explain ingredients and keep us entertained. For larger groups or at busier times, expect to wait for an hour or so. Once in, you won’t be rushed and the food is excellent (although if there’s a queue you may not be able to order more!)
Don’t let a few negative reviews stop you from trying this wonderful place! We’re foreigners, not members, and we were still able to have dinner here without any problem. If you really want to enjoy this amazing food, just be polite and ask if you can wait. The owner was very kind and honest — he told us the wait would be about 40 minutes, and it was exactly that. There was one couple ahead of us, and soon enough, we were inside enjoying one of the best meals of our trip. If you love okonomiyaki like we do, you must eat here. It’s every bit as good as (or even better than!) the top places we tried in Hiroshima last year. So don’t get discouraged if you can’t get a table right away — it’s absolutely worth coming back for. The food is delicious, authentic, and truly worth every minute of the wait!
