Onomiyaki at Kameya – Delicious Food, Great Staff, but One Rude Encounter We had a wonderful meal at Kameya in Nara — the okonomiyaki here is truly exceptional. Perfectly cooked with a soft interior, crisp edges, and rich savory flavor, it’s one of the tastiest versions we’ve tried. Every bite feels warm, comforting, and full of character. Most of the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always smiling and making sure guests feel welcomed. Their hospitality really elevates the experience and makes the restaurant feel cozy and inviting. However, we did have one disappointing moment during payment — the staff member in charge of the cashier was extremely rude, which felt quite unexpected compared to the warm service from everyone else. It didn’t reflect the overall spirit of the restaurant but was still noticeable. Despite that, the food is fantastic and the dining atmosphere is great. If you’re in Nara and love okonomiyaki, Kameya is still very much worth visiting.
We arrived in the evening of a Saturday, but the restaurant was relatively empty. Despite free tables that were already cleaned, we weren't called out of the waiting area for some time. We ordered one Rice Cake&Cheese Okonomiyaki and one Beef Okonomiyaki, which we waited for for a long time. The taste was okay. The service overall was very rushed and not friendly. We only got one glass of tab water and no bottle to refill. At first we didn't have any toppings and sauces like all the other tables, the waiter also forgot to put those onto the table for us. Very small portions. Meat sparse.
Great place, lovely staff, best location. Okonomiyaki was good, so was the beef. We ordered apricot sake and loved it! The waitress with short hair was so fast and really good at her job. She was very friendly and actually guided us through the menu and looked glad doing so. Recommended!
Great place for okonomiyaki for a reasonable price. Kameya offers the main dishes of okonomiyaki and teppanyaki already prepared so that when it reaches your table, you're just keeping it heated. This may be to your liking as some may consider the assembly part of the experience. The restaurant is fairly well ventilated and doesn't leave the smell of grease or smoke on your clothes which is usually common in places like this. The food is generally delicious and you can't go wrong with any of the choices
Good food and affordable prices. The atmosphere was nice. The staffs were very friendly. Really convenient since it is located close to the Kintetsu Nara Station. Highly recommend!!! \(๑╹◡╹๑)ノ♬
