Stopped here while exploring the Kiyomizu area and it was a good place to sit down for a break. The desserts were well made and the matcha flavour was rich without being overpowering. I tried the matcha tiramisu, which was simple but done well, and paired nicely with a cup of tea. The setting is also quite pleasant, with both indoor seating and a small courtyard area. It’s a popular spot, so there may be a wait, but it was worth stopping by if you’re a fan of matcha.
We braved the rain to stop by for dessert after seeing this place featured on several platforms for its beautiful house and picturesque setting. We noticed the prominent sign at the entrance stating that guests must purchase a drink before taking a seat, and staff reminded us of this when ordering. Unfortunately, this policy did not seem to be consistently enforced. The entire second floor was occupied by guests without drinks or desserts, and some appeared to be reserving seats for others. A more structured seating system, managed by staff, would make the experience fairer for paying customers. The soft serve ice cream was excellent and easily the highlight of our visit. The matcha latte, however, was a little too milky for our taste, and the matcha tiramisu did not appeal to us. Overall, it felt like a missed opportunity. The setting was lovely, but the overall experience did not quite live up to our expectations.
Ordered the matcha tiramisu and matcha float with Red bean paste and rice cake balls which were both really delicious and perfect for the hot weather. The matcha tiramisu was creamy and not too sweet and came in a really nice wooden container. The matcha float had a really nice biscuit that accompanied it. As it is a popular place, the inside was completely full so we had to eat it outside which wasn’t too bad as there was some shade.
Stopped by Maccha House while exploring Kyoto and decided to try their famous tiramisu and parfait. Presentation-wise, both desserts looked beautiful and the matcha flavour itself was very pleasant, rich, earthy, and not overly bitter. That said, the desserts leaned a little too sweet for my personal liking, and the texture of the tiramisu was much runnier than expected. I would have preferred something slightly more balanced and creamier in consistency.
Stopped by MACCHA HOUSE in Kyoto (Sannenzaka) and really enjoyed the experience. The matcha desserts were beautifully presented and full of rich, authentic flavor, not too sweet, just perfectly balanced. The location in Sannenzaka makes it even more special, with a lovely traditional Kyoto atmosphere all around. A great place to take a break and enjoy some high-quality matcha while exploring the area.
