This is easily one of the most unique Starbucks we've ever visited. Set inside a beautifully preserved traditional Kyoto machiya, it blends perfectly with the historic streets of Ninenzaka. From the outside, you might not even realize it's a Starbucks, and that's exactly what makes it so special. The interior is just as beautiful, with traditional Japanese architecture, wooden interiors, and tatami seating upstairs. It offers a completely different experience from a regular Starbucks and is well worth visiting even if you're not planning to have a coffee. We stopped here for a break while exploring the Higashiyama area, and it was the perfect place to relax before continuing our walk. The atmosphere was calm, the staff were friendly, and it felt like a wonderful mix of Kyoto's traditional charm and a familiar coffee shop. If you're visiting Kiyomizu-dera or strolling through Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, don't miss this Starbucks. It's much more than just a place to grab a drink—it's an experience in itself.
Starbucks Coffee Kyoto Ninenzaka Yasaka Chaya is far more than a typical Starbucks location—it is a uniquely Kyoto experience that beautifully blends a global coffee brand with the traditional aesthetics and atmosphere of the city’s historic streets. Housed within a beautifully preserved traditional machiya-style building near the magical Hanamikoji and Higashiyama area, the café offers a distinctive ambiance and decor that feels unlike any other Starbucks in the world. Despite being located right in the heart of Kyoto’s bustling tourist district, the interior still manages to retain a warm and charming atmosphere. The service is efficient and friendly, even with the constant flow of visitors throughout the day. Tip: Seating is limited and can feel somewhat cramped, especially during peak hours, so be prepared for possible waiting times or difficulty finding a seat. Visiting earlier in the morning generally offers a calmer experience. Even if you do not stay long, it is worth stepping inside simply to appreciate the beautifully adapted traditional Kyoto architecture and atmosphere.
An absolutely stunning and unique Starbucks experience! Nestled inside a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese machiya townhouse, the atmosphere here is unmatched. Sitting on tatami mats while sipping coffee perfectly bridges historic Kyoto with modern comfort. The food and drinks were excellent as expected (5/5). Because it's an incredibly popular spot, the service was a bit hectic and took a little time, but the staff handles the crowds remarkably well (4/5). It’s an absolute must-visit if you are exploring the Ninenzaka area—just be prepared for a bit of a wait!
The place is really busy sometimes, when you come you should find a seat first and then order and it can get quite loud since there are so many tourists But I love the vegan options in the Japan Starbucks, I had a banana cream sort of cake that was heavenly just look at the pictures Love
Experience Starbucks inside a traditional Japanese house. They have rooms with Tatami mats where you will be sitting on a cushion on the floor instead of a chair. The place can get crowded. You must secure a seat first before ordering. It's important as you're not allowed to eat or drink while walking outside.
